Careers (CEIAG)

Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) at The Piggott School is a vital part of school life. All students will receive this as part of their learning here at the school. We are committed to providing the appropriate activities and experiences to enable students to make successful transitions from the start of Year 7, through Key Stages 4 and 5 and then on to further education, training programmes, apprenticeships or work.

The Piggott School’s aims in relation to CEIAG are:

  • To allow students to make informed and considered choices at the end of all three key stages.
  • To help and guide students to make transitions into new situations.
  • To promote self-development in students including employability skills.
  • To help students to value differences and diversity between people.
  • To raise aspirations and make students aware of opportunities available to them.
  • To provide guidance to all students in relation to decisions about options, further education and career choices, including apprenticeships.

Careers education should not just be seen as learning about jobs but also learning about work ethics, equipping students with skills (both hard and soft) for the work place, ensuring transition occurs smoothly and helping to reduce barriers to entering the world of work.

In this section of the website you will find lots of useful links and information about careers, services, further education and training programmes including: information on careers fairs, volunteering, work experience etc. We also work closely with Adviza - this allows students to access impartial guidance about their career via our careers advisor Carrie Haywood.

For more information on CEIAG and how it is delivered please click on the links displayed on the careers area of the school website.

All students at will have an opportunity to attend a careers interview in Year 11 and also the option to do so in Years 12 and 13.  If you would like to have a careers appointment please speak to Mrs van den Berghen.

Individual guidance is supported by a wide selection of reference material and software in the school’s careers library. In Years 12 and 13, guidance, especially on applications for Higher Education, comes from the student’s form tutor and the resources of the sixth form careers library. In addition, to help Year 11 and sixth form students with their career choices, workshops and seminars are held throughout the school year. Employees from various careers give talks to the students in assemblies and during school activity days. Within the tutor programme of Years 7-11 there is a series of sessions based around careers and work related learning and in 12 and 13 there is also a focus on careers. Our PSHCE curriculum also covers a range of CEIAG content throughout Years 7-10.

Each year we welcome dozens of local, national and international businesses people into school to help run a series of interview days. All of Year 12 take part in this event, with visitors able to offer feedback to each pupil on their CV as well as carrying out a number of interviews with each pupil.

If you wish to discuss the careers programme further, please contact our Careers and Guidance Mentor, Charlotte van den Berghen, RCDP (Registered Careers Development Practitioner) or telephone on 0118 9402357
