Further Mathematics Support Programme
15 Year 9 girls were recently given the opportunity to attend an event run by the Further Mathematics Support Programme at the Mathematical Institute, part of the University of Oxford. The aim of the event was to motivate and inspire more girls to access Mathematics at a higher level and encourage students to consider the importance of maths outside the classroom.
The girls worked in groups to complete different tasks, ranging from estimating the percentage of plastic in our oceans to thinking about how to prepare aid for countries after natural disasters have occurred.
The sessions enabled the girls to apply maths which they have learned in the classroom to real life contexts and let them explore the importance of maths in potential future careers.
The girls worked exceptionally well together and were a credit to our school.
