MESSAGE FROM OUR SIXTH FORM CAREERS TEAM

Welcome to our Careers Bulletin - your new fortnightly round up of all things post-Piggott. Information and opportunities will be collated for you to easily access as you focus on your future planning. 

Mrs Chipperfield and Mrs van den Berghen are your Advice and Guidance Mentors within Sixth Form - feel free to request an appointment if you'd like any help as you search universities, apprenticeships, work experience and future pathways. 

 

UNIVERSITIES

86% of our 2019 Year 13s went to University and this is a popular pathway for students at The Piggott.  We will share useful information and event details for anything to do with Universities below. 

 

UCAS Discovery Week - June 22 - 26

Informal Cardiff Uni tour

Two of our former Piggott students who are currently in their first year at Cardiff have very kindly offered to meet up informally with any prospective students who would like to have a look around the university and halls in a very small group at some point between now and the middle of June. This is not an official school event and must be arranged and paid for of your own accord and with permission from your parent or carer.

If you think you may be interested please let Mrs Chipperfield know ASAP and she will be able to put your parents/carer in touch to coordinate.

Virtual Law Event - Balliol College, Oxford  - 23 July 

For Year 12  students  considering studying Law at any university. This event will include application support alongside the opportunity to speak to  professionals working in different aspects of Law including members of the Kalisher Trust and the Sentencing Academy. There will also be a chance to ask questions of both the legal professionals, and undergraduate Law students present.

Apprenticeships are an increasingly popular pathway with hundreds of apprenticeships across a broad range of industries that you can apply for depending on your qualifications. Here we will keep you abreast of apprenticeship information and opportunities.

The Dyson Institute

The Side Hustle Initiative 2021

A competition to find the best young entrepreneurs.
The Side Hustle is a nationwide search for all 14-18-year-olds delivering a side hustle or who have an amazing business idea.
The prize is access to 1-2-1 professional mentoring and a £10,000 investment fund!
Nominations open on the 15th June and close on the 29th June - speak to Mrs Chipperfield or Mrs van den Berghen to be nominated.
