Welcome to our Careers Bulletin - your fortnightly round up of all careers related information post-Piggott with opportunities which we will collate for you to easily access as you focus on your future planning. 

Mrs van den Berghen (RCDP (Registered Career Development Practitioner) and Miss Giacomet (Careers and Pastoral support) are your Advice and Guidance Mentors - within Sixth Form. Feel free to request an appointment if you would like any help as you search universities, apprenticeships, work experience and future career pathways. 

Easter virtual work experience

11th - 13th April 2022

Hosting perhaps the biggest virtual work experience event for school and college students ever, Young Professionals UK are being joined by some of the world’s most successful organisations in Technology, Accounting, Transport & Logistics and Law. 

You’ll get to hear and learn from some of the world’s top business and professionals from companies such as Capgemini, IBM, Kuehne & Nagel, Clifford Chance & CIMA, as they take you through a number of practical workshops, activities and presentations. 

If you’re interested in a career any of the above areas or just wish to know more, make sure you take advantage of this fantastic opportunity!

After taking part you will be awarded certificates of completion which you’ll be able to add to your CV / personal statement.

Reading Careers fair - Friday 22nd April 2022

The Reading Careers Fair will offer candidates from all backgrounds, experience and education levels the opportunity to speak to representatives from an abundance of local employers, all in one place.

Why attend?

Located at the Pentahotel in Reading, there will be a wide variety of different organisations attending, alongside a wide variety of roles being advertised. By attending this event, you get the chance speak directly to the employer about their current and future opportunties.

What type of companies usually exhibit?

Companies such as Activate Learning, Adviza, Austin Fraser, BaxterStorey, Blue Angel Care, British Army, Calcot Services, Daniel Owens, Datto Europe Limited, Guide Dogs, Landmark, Loddon School, Manage Mentors, Mitchell & Butlers, Quotient Sciences, Royal Navy, Thames Valley Police, Virgin Media, Vitality, West Berkshire Council and Xtrac have all previously exhibited with The UK Careers Fair at an event in Reading.

National Work Experience Week 

25th - 29th April 2022

Whether you are unsure what to do next or already know what you'd like to do when you leave school but want to gain an understanding of a particular sector, National Work Experience Week bought to you by CareerMap, is a great way to get your questions answered. 

Hosted online at this live and interactive event, you'll get to hear from companies such as British Airways, Travis Perkins, Airbus and more. You'll also have the opportunity to have your questions answered by these leading employers as well as sign up for work experience.

Autism at a UK university: a case study

Adjusting to uni with an Autism Spectrum Disorder

An autism spectrum disorder (ASD), also known in short as ‘autism’, is a developmental disability which causes social and communication-based behavioural challenges. 

In this case study we hear from Lina, a Financial Analyst and an Economics and Accounting graduate from Brunel University, who tells us about her experience of going to university as a person with autism.

Unifrog's new placement tool is now live!

Every student should have first-hand experiences of the workplace through work visits, work shadowing and/or work experience to help with exploring career opportunities and networks. 

Piggott School have now signed up to Unifrog's latest tool to help work experience become easy and effective for both you - the student, and the employer. 

Please take a look at the link to the video which explains more about how to use the placement tool. 

Students are encouraged to find their own work experience or volunteer work to help expand career opportunities. When you do find a placement please notify Miss Giacomet or Mrs van den Berghen as soon as possible.

Meet the Russell Group - Wednesday 27th April 2022

The Russell Group are running a virtual event in association with UK University Search.

This online and interactive experience will allow you to explore all 24 Russell Group universities.  You will be able to take part in 5 live webinars in the virtual auditorium, view information and videos about each university, link directly to Virtual Campus Tours to explore university facilities and accommodation, and download prospectuses.
